Harlequin + Hibiscus Original Fine Art Print
Coming Soon
A study in symbiosis. This is part of a series of plant and animal symbiotic relationships I have discovered in my local area of Noosa.
Harlequin Beetles (Tectocoris diopthalmus) are one of the main pollinators of Cottonwood trees (Hibiscus tiliaceus). When they move around, feeding on the sugar-rich juices found in the young shoots, they pick up pollen on their bodies, transferring it. It is a rare occurrence for me to find a cottonwood tree without its pearlescent and vibrant insect companion present.
